Description
The Red Scapular of the Passion is a traditional devotional scapular associated with a vision received by a Sister of Charity of St Vincent de Paul in 1846. In this vision, Christ promised an increase in the theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity to those who faithfully wear the scapular and contemplate His Passion.
One side of the scapular depicts Christ on the Cross with the words:
“Holy Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, save us.”
The reverse side shows the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with the inscription:
“Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, protect us.”
This scapular comes with an accompanying leaflet explaining its devotion and background. Pope Pius IX granted the Priests of the Mission (Lazarists) the faculty to invest the faithful with this scapular, with permission for other priests to receive this faculty through the Superior General of the Lazarists.
