IT HAPPENED THIS MONTH
Reign of Terror of Maximilian Robespierre - Henry Peel OP
In the course of human history devotion to great causes has brought immeasurably greater calamities on humanity than what might be classified as normal human vices. Maximilian Robespierre had none of the normal vices. He was, indeed, know as "the incorruptible". Though he was virtually dictator of France from December 1793 until July 1794 he does not seem to have been personally ambitious. That he was responsible for the execution of thousands of people did not trouble his conscience. He was, in his fashion, a sincerely religious man!
PASSING OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE - Vincent Travers OP
It was an unforgettable moment. I experienced it, above all places, at the native funeral of my friend Watson, who at the age of 93, had "passed over to the other side," a native expression that describes the passage from this life to the next. It has taken time, but I have discovered that native people really talk to outsiders of the spirit world, perhaps because they feel outsiders would not understand that the spirit world is an everyday reality, influencing and touching their lives.
THE TENTH COMMANDMENT - You shall not covet your neighbourt's goods... - Vivian Boland OP
Why is "the love of money" the root of all evil (1 Tim 6:10)? Certainly an undue attachment to things causes problems but people have to live in the "real world", care for their security and prosperity, and store up something for rainy days.
Proceeds from the sale of the magazine are used to finance the works of the Dominicans in India, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago.
Funds are also sent to emergency areas of Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America through the Dominican Solidarity Fund based in Santa Sabina in Rome.
The magazine asks for a donation of 60 cent (40 pence sterling) and contains articles on Prayer, The Life of Saint Martin, history, questions people ask, and articles about faith and life in general.
